“This is my command—be strong and courageous!
Do not be afraid or discouraged.
For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

– Joshua 1:9

“It’s astounding. How the Fellowship of Christian Athletes continues to RISE in the hearts of coaches, athletes,
and all whom they influence, and alter the trajectory of not only their eternity, but their now.”

True to this year’s RISE theme, never before have coaches, athletes, and other leaders in the sports world been so bold and courageous to change their lives and dig deeper into the grace of God. Through more than 1,400 staff, 89,000 donors, and thousands of volunteers, FCA had the privilege of coming alongside these leaders to equip, serve, and strengthen their faith in God to live audaciously for Him.

2016 saw a record-breaking year across the globe with workers and resources reaching far and wide to and through Coaches, at Camps, on Campuses and throughout Communities. On the cusp of this amazing year comes exciting change, as we transition leadership from current FCA president and CEO Les Steckel, who will retire after 12 years of outstanding service, to Shane Williamson, as FCA’s 8th president after 24 years of FCA involvement, most recently as FCA’s Executive Director of Field Ministry.

A Message From Our President…

In 2016, FCA has embraced the command to “…be strong and courageous!” as given in Joshua 1:9. God has called us to RISE in our walk with Him. He gives the strength and courage that we need each day. As we’ve risen, God has transformed thousands of lives around the globe through the influence of coaches and athletes. We give thanks as we reflect on His faithfulness to the ministry of FCA.

After twelve life-changing years, God made it clear to my wife, Chris, and I that our season leading FCA was coming to an end this year. We stand in awe of all that God has done during our time with the ministry. We have traveled across America seeing lives changed for eternity at camps, faith strengthened through the Huddle experience and coaches modeling Christ’s love. We have been blessed many times to witness the extreme generosity of donors and volunteers. Now I pass the baton in 2017 to Shane Williamson, FCA’s new president. Shane has a rich history with FCA, serving in a variety of field staff positions since coming on staff in 2002. Shane will continue FCA’s legacy of impact and will take the ministry to new heights.

I sincerely thank you for partnering with FCA.

Your Teammate in Christ,

Les Steckel
President/CEO 2016

“What I like about coaching is the impact I’m able to have on my players. That’s the best part, building those relationships and being able to challenge them to become something that they never thought they could achieve.”
– Coach

“Sports are temporary but my relationship with Christ is something that’s going to be eternal.”

Ministry Impact

There’s no telling what could happen when a coach’s heart sets on fire for Christ. As one of the major influencers around the world, coaches have the ability to alter lives for better or worse, and we’ve made it a priority to pour into our coaches and see them transformed and passionate about the sphere of influence where God has placed them.

In 2016, we saw incredible impact with a record 1,190 certified Coaches Huddles.

When coaches become followers of Jesus Christ, their character, relationships and approach to coaching authentically pours from the way they act, live and speak. FCA walks them through this journey, providing coaches Huddles and conventions, in depth training with redesigned 3Dimensional Coaching, and resources and retreats to build up their heart and energy in and out of coaching, so they can be at their best to most effectively shepherd teams, athletes and their staff.

“It’s really rewarding to see a player come to his faith and come to know Christ. It doesn’t get any better than that.” – Coach

The Campus Ministry is a certified ministry that is initiated and led by student-athletes, sponsored by coaches, supported by staff, established on junior high, high school or college campuses and meets on a regular basis. The types of Campus Ministry are: Multi-Sport Huddle, Team Huddle, and Coaches Huddle.

Through the seven types of camps—Sports Camp, Leadership Camp, Coaches Camp, Power Camp, Team Camp, Partnership Camp and International Camp—this year’s theme, RISE, encouraged coaches and athletes to develop coaching/athletic skills, create lasting and influential relationships, and to trust and follow their Coach, Jesus Christ, as they rise to make a difference for Him.

Where the people are, so is FCA. And this includes getting out into the wide world of local communities. With 57 million athletes in club sports, FCA’s community ministry could very well have the greatest area of potential impact.

With the majority of athletes playing sports in the community, FCA is ministering to the non-campus opportunities of club, recreational and youth sports teams with the goal of establishing ongoing ministry for coaches and athletes to compete for Jesus Christ with character, passion and excellence. Whether that’s gathering a group of club coaches for weekly Bible study, team Huddles between tournaments, or pulling together a league or event that incorporates the entire family, we’re making sure the next generation is introduced to Christ and kept spiritually refreshed.

In 2016, we saw the growth of 928 Community Huddles.

“It’s been neat to see how God has provided, how He’s used [Community Ministry] and how we’re using it to reach our community for Christ.” – FCA Staff

shanewilliamson-formalA Message From Shane Williamson…

Thank you for your prayers, support and friendship to our staff and all whom we serve. As we advance the ministry together, let us run the race before us and fix our eyes on Christ, the author and perfector of our faith. (Hebrews 12:1-2)

The foundation from which we build has been firmly laid by Les and Chris Steckel, who have guided this ministry through prayer, counsel and the leading of the Spirit to places once thought unimaginable.

Now, as we grow and learn how God is moving FCA into deeper avenue of sports, millions more coaches and athletes will be influenced by the gospel.

Our reach is unlimited, and our unity is uncommon. What makes a great team is the uncanny, unexplainable, intangible qualities of alignment around a common purpose and direction, and we have that now more than ever.

Momentum is hard to get, but harder to stop. Through God’s favor and dedicated, passionate teammates, FCA has great momentum. What a challenging and exciting time to be in ministry!

Let’s lock arms, hearts, and minds to allow the Spirit to lead us onward and upward.

“The question often asked is FCA as needed or relevant today as it was back then, and I would say more so. FCA is God’s amazing, miraculous dream being fulfilled still to this day.”
